Diljit Dosanjh Teams Up with Imtiaz Ali Again for New Film

After the success of Amar Singh Chamkila, director Imtiaz Ali is set to reunite with actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh for a brand-new film — and this time, the cast is even more exciting. The upcoming project will also feature legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah, along with rising stars Vedang Raina and Sharvari.

Though the film’s title is still under wraps, production is scheduled to begin in August 2025, with a theatrical release planned for 2026.

Adding magic to the film’s soul-stirring narrative, A.R. Rahman will once again compose the music, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil — reuniting the dream team that has previously delivered some of Bollywood’s most iconic tracks.

Speaking about the story, Imtiaz Ali gave a poetic hint at the film’s emotional core by quoting a couplet from Momin Khan Momin:
“Tum mere paas hote ho goya, jab koi doosra nahin hota”
(“You are with me, it feels, when no one else is”).

Reflecting on the film, Imtiaz shared,
“Can love really be lost? Can home ever be taken from one’s heart? This film has a big heart. It’s told on a grand scale, but it’s deeply personal. At its core, it’s about a boy and a girl — and also about a country. Wish us luck as we step into this emotional journey. We hope to return next year with a film that touches your heart.”

Sharvari, who is part of the ensemble cast, was thrilled to receive the news on her birthday. She took to Instagram to share her excitement, writing:
“What an incredible surprise to see this announcement on my birthday! Best birthday ever! Imtiaz sir, I’ve dreamed of being directed by you ever since I wanted to be an actor. This is such an honour… Thank you for choosing me. I’m beyond excited to be working with this dream team — Naseeruddin sir, Diljit, Vedang — eeeppp!”
