A BNP election rally began at 1:50pm today at the Circuit House ground beside the Brahmaputra River in Mymensingh. The event marks the return of BNP chairman Tarique Rahman to the district after nearly 22 years.

The programme started with recitation from the Holy Quran. Later, Tarique Rahman is expected to address the gathering as the chief speaker.

An announcement from the stage said his motorcade crossed Trishal around 2:00pm on its way to the venue.

Supporters arrive from early morning

From early morning, party leaders and activists started arriving in small groups. Supporters came from Mymensingh and nearby districts by bus, train, and other transport.

Meanwhile, between 12:00pm and 2:00pm, continuous processions moved toward the venue. These processions came through roads around the Circuit House ground. Many supporters wore colourful caps and T-shirts.

At the same time, organisers set up large screens and sound systems at several points. As a result, people could follow the programme easily.

Security tightened around the venue

Ahead of the rally, law enforcement agencies deployed extra personnel at different points. They took these steps to keep order and ensure safety.

In addition, police increased patrols in the surrounding areas.

Leaders and activists share their hopes

Jalal Uddin, vice-president of Lakshichar Union BNP, arrived at the venue around 9:00am with about 100 leaders and activists.

“This is a joyful day for us. For the last 17 years, we could not do normal politics or hold rallies,” he said.

He also said, “If BNP comes to power, we hope the government will improve roads and other local infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, Emdadul Islam, agriculture affairs secretary of Kushtia Union BNP, said the rally is a special moment for local workers.

“This will be the first time we will see Tarique Rahman in person. So, this is a big day for us,” he said.

Party leaders call for unity

At the rally, Sherpur district BNP convener Sirajul Islam said the party will move forward under Tarique Rahman’s leadership.

He also said BNP aims to win in all constituencies.

At the same time, BNP Mymensingh North unit convener Enayatullah Kalam said the upcoming election is very important for the party. He added that it comes after years of political struggle.

Meanwhile, BNP Mymensingh city unit convener Rafiqul Islam urged party activists to work together to secure victory.
